GIMP tutorial - creating a graduated filter



This tutorial shows how a graduated filter effect is being created using the freewere graphic editor GIMP.

Directly shown below is the original photo

In GIMP, we create a new layer. This will be the layer to simulate the Graduated Filter. Next, we create a gradient fill in the layer. See picture below:

Next, we change the layer property for the 2nd layer to ‘Soft Lighting’. See picture below:

The picture below is the final image. Notice the dark contrast on the left side that is caused by the graduated filter.

  2. Nice little trick for photo editing. Not too complicated to non-designers.
